the fourth
I didn’t fall asleep until 3:30AM this morning.
I’m incredibly bored.
I decided to put some photos of our house on ratemyspace.hgtv.com last night.
I’ve received hot and cold responses. All of which are helpful.
I miss this about Ithaca.
I’m thinking about dying my hair brown versus auburn.
I want to see fireworks!
I’m going to shut up now.

just my luck
I’m on day 5 of my 15k training extravaganza. And so far so good. Except about 1/2 way through my run today . . . when I took a nose dive into the pavement.
Picture it: I’m in the middle of this pretty posh neighborhood — white-haired retirees grooming plush lawns, a few well-dressed housewives tending to their children — and BAM. I tripped over my own feet and then went flying.
I landed kind of like this:

I did emerge from the whole situation relatively unscathed (only a brush burn on my back and a few scrapes on my right hand) . . . but my adrenalin was PUMPING, making the rest of the run difficult.
Yesterday my parents visited and we went all over the place. Then it happened. The thing I’ve been dreading for a long time. I picked up applications. At RETAIL stores. Seriously, I didn’t think it would come to this. I’ve never even worked in the retail or foodservice industries. Not that there’s anything wrong with doing so — but I can’t believe I had a better job in college than I’m reduced to looking into now. BU — Call me! I’m available. Anytime. Please?
I think out of all of the applications, I’ll take in the one for Pier 1 first. Seemed like the best atmosphere and like a job at least mildly related to my interests.
On another unhappy note, I have a feeling I’m going to miss out on fireworks this year. I have no idea where they’re happening. No one to go with. Plus, they don’t all happen on the 4th — and I heard quite a chorus of bangs and booms last night, so I may have already missed my chance. Furthermore, Stephen and I went to Canandaigua for the 4th last year, and their fireworks were canceled due to bad weather. I can’t win.
Something good: I discovered BBC America On DEMAND. This means I have quite a few excellent documentaries at my fingertips. Last night I watched one about people addicted to plastic surgery and another about three individuals with body dysmorphic disorder. Despite the more-than occasional discontent I have with my own body — I doubt I’d ever do something to modify it. Then again, it may be worth the thousands to actually know what it is like to have a chest.
Hmmmm…
unfortunately

But you can check out the old ones on Flickr.

Despite being unemployed . . . I haven’t found much time to blog lately.
So, I’m starting over.
:: I had an interview last week for a producer position at a design firm. It went well, but I’m not sure the job is for me. Too much travel and pressure. Not to mention I’d be the only female working there besides the receptionist. I just think the whole marketing biz isn’t my area.
:: SUNY Binghamton called me a few weeks ago because they’re resuming their job search for the library position I so desperately want. They’ll be narrowing the pool soon and choosing candidates to bring to campus for interviews. They called me to see if I am still interested (because it’s been a WHILE since I’ve applied — we’re talking late March here) . . . and, of course, I am. So . . . I’m just hoping they call for an interview soon!
:: Stephen left today for a two-week stint at the Cornell-Taiwan Exchange camp he directs. To make use of all the energy I have from being alone, I made a HUGE pot of vegan Mexican chili, as well as a fantastic sandwich: avocado salad with swiss and brown mustard.
:: I cannot find the battery charger for my Nikon . . . so no new photos.
:: A few weeks ago, Stephen and I opened a new bank account. I told the account representative that I am currently seeking employment (to answer her question about my occupation), and she replied: “Well, we’ll just put you in here (the system) as a homemaker!” Then she smiled at me, thinking I’d approve, and I think I may have given her the dirtiest look in the history of dirty looks. Yikes.
:: Recently we’ve painted our bedroom (a light gray) and the kitchen (a pistachio green — almost exactly the same color that we uncovered underneath the floral wallpaper).
:: My insomnia is slowly subsiding. I’ve been able to sleep better the past few nights. Thank god. The only thing I’ll miss is my 3AM TV time with The Weather Channel — “When Weather Changed History” . . . I seriously love that show.
:: I’m starting to think Binghamton is severe storm central. We’re getting yet another storm right now, so I need to cut this short.
Ciao, ragazzi!
